Villarreal and Mallorca have been two of the surprise packages in La Liga this season, they came into this weekend in fifth and sixth respectively in the table after impressive first halves of the campaign.

The two teams have gone about that in contrasting ways.

Villarreal have relied on heavy scoring, only the top three have netted more than their 34 goals, while Mallorca have been much more solid at the back than these opponents, conceding ten fewer than the Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal are odds-on but their recent form makes them hard to fancy at those prices. The hosts have only won one of their last eight games in all competitions and have lost to fourth-tier side Pontevedra in that run.

A better bet in this game is for both teams to find the net. 13 of Villarreal’s last 16 La Liga home games have seen both teams score.

Mallorca have scored in five of their last six league outings and they should be able to do so again against this Villarreal defence, which came into this weekend’s games as the second-worst in the division.

This should be an entertaining affair, three of the home team’s league games this term have finished 2-2 and this could be the latest.
