Last season’s unbeaten run to the Bundesliga must be beginning to feel like a distant memory for Bayer Leverkusen, as their start to this campaign has been far from plain sailing. 

A 1-1 draw with Brest in the Champions League on Wednesday has to be considered a disappointing result after Leverkusen’s heroics last term and Xabi Alonso will be looking for an instant reaction in Bremen on Saturday. 

The Spaniard looks set to get one too, given all of Werder’s best form this term has come away from the Weserstadion, with all three of the River Islanders’ league wins coming on the road.
