West Ham United vs Manchester City Predictions

  • Both teams have found the net in six of the last eight Premier League games between these sides
  • Manchester City have had 17 victories in their last 20 in the Premier League
  • Seven of the last nine of West Ham’s Premier League games have produced over 2.5 goals

Red-hot Citizens will take some stopping

Manchester City have gotten the new campaign underway with two wins over Chelsea and Ipswich respectively and now look to make it three out of three when they visit West Ham in their final game before the international break.

The Hammers lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in their first home game of the season before securing a 2-0 away victory against Crystal Palace in their second matchup.

They followed that with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth in their midweek EFL Cup clash but now face a significant step up on those opponents as they take on the defending Premier League champions at home.

The recent record of the Citizens does not make for great reading for their hosts, Pep Guardiola’s side have won 17 of their last 20 league matches, and the last time West Ham beat them in the Premier League was 2015.

In fact, the visitors have been on the winning side in the last four meetings between these two teams and are unbeaten in their last six.

Guardiola’s men did concede a shock early goal against Ipswich last week but that merely seemed to awaken them from their slumber as they quickly went 3-1 up with three goals in six minutes to answer the Tractor Boys.

They cruised to a 4-1 win in that game, thanks mostly to an Erling Haaland hat-trick and the Norwegian has started the new campaign in ominously good form, netting four times in two outings.

However there have been some issues with Guardiola’s side, particularly on the counter attack, and West Ham will set up to try and exploit that.

Goals on the cards at London Stadium

The Hammers have spent heavily over the summer, bringing in the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Max Killman.

Adding those players to a core of Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus makes them a dangerous team to face for any Premier League outfit.

Both teams have found the net in six of the last eight Premier League games between these sides and a repeat of that looks likely in this one, although Manchester City’s quality should eventually tell.

The two meetings between these two teams last season both finished 3-1 to Pep Guardiola’s men and a repeat of that is not out of the question.

Only Erling Haaland has had more shots for the visitors than Kevin De Bruyne this term and he can get on the scoresheet once more after netting last week.
