West Ham United and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

It has not been a great campaign for West Ham, who have not looked much better since the appointment of Graham Potter, but they should have enough to see off relegation Southampton. That said, Saints have scored in four of their last five games and can net a consolation goal.

West Ham United 3-1

Reason for tip

Since the start of February, Southampton have twice sustained 3-1 defeats and there could be a repeat of that scoreline when they visit West Ham.

Jarrod Bowen To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

It has not been a scintillating season from Jarrod Bowen but he still has eight Premier League goals to his name this term and can get on the scoresheet against struggling Southampton.

West Ham United vs Southampton Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in nine of West Ham’s 16 home league games
  • Southampton have picked up just five points on their travels in the Premier League this term
  • Southampton have scored in four of their last five matches
  • Jarrod Bowen has scored eight goals in the Premier League this season

Another defeat awaits struggling Saints

Southampton’s inevitable relegation from the Premier League was confirmed in a 3-1 loss away to Tottenham at the start of the month but they did not exactly look like a team playing with freedom in their 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

With relegation mathematically confirmed, it would have been plausible to assume Southampton would approach their remaining games as free hits to at least give their fans a reassuring end to the campaign.

That was not the case at St Mary’s as they were carved apart by Villa, who scored three second-half goals and dominated the affair.

This weekend’s clash with West Ham should, however, be more straightforward for Saints, who can get on the scoresheet in defeat.

Expect both teams to net at London Stadium

Prior to their 3-0 loss to Villa, Southampton had found the net in four straight league games against Liverpool, Wolves, Crystal Palace and Tottenham.

Paul Onuachu, who scored in their 1-1 draw with Palace earlier this month, is a towering presence up top, while Matheus Fernandes and Tyler Dibling offer a threat down the flank.

But while Saints could score, the bottom line is they could still finish the season with the all-time lowest Premier League points total (currently Derby with 11 points in 2007-08) and they have lost 26 of their 32 fixtures.

And even a stuttering West Ham should be able to see them off at the London Stadium.

Bowen can score for underwhelming Hammers

Graham Potter is yet to properly get a tune out of the Hammers but they held Bournemouth to a 2-2 draw and showed fight in their 2-1 loss away to Liverpool on Sunday.

A West Ham win and both teams to score is the way to go, although that is informed more by Southampton’s struggles than too many positives from the Londoners.

As for a correct score, Southampton have lost by a 3-1 scoreline twice since the start of February and that could be a good pick.

As for a goalscorer, Jarrod Bowen is worth selecting.

It has not been a spectacular season from the Englishman but he remains West Ham’s biggest threat up top with eight goals in this season’s Premier League and he was on target in their most recent home game – the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
