Wigan vs Barnsley Predictions

Both teams can strike at Wigan

Take both teams to get a goal in Saturday’s League One clash between Wigan and Barnsley at the Brick Community Stadium. Both sides have scored in 24 of Barnsley’s 38 league matches this season, and in four of their last six games.

Barnsley are 11th in League One, seven places and ten points above Wigan, with the hosts sitting 18th having won 11 and lost 15 of their 36 games this season, while the visitors have won 15 and lost 15.

It’s hard to draw many conclusions from Wigan’s recent League One results, with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six outings. Three weeks ago they were 1-0 winners over Cambridge in their last home game.

Barnsley’s last two road trips have both ended in defeat and these are tough times for them, with three of their last four matches ending in defeat.

Barnsley dominated possession in their 1-1 draw with Cambridge last weekend, having 74.2% of the ball, and it was a surprise that they didn’t win, having been priced at 8/11.

This was Barnsley’s fourth game in six with both teams scoring and means they have failed to win eight of the 11 times they have been odds-on this season.

They created chances and hit the woodwork but were unable to force a winner.

Both defences are struggling and that points to goals. Wigan have conceded in 11 of their last 13 League One home games, while Barnsley have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last three on the road.

Wigan may be able to edge out Barnsley in a close game, with a 2-1 home win the correct-score pick. Seven of Wigan’s 11 League One victories this season have been by one goal and six of Barnsley’s 15 defeats in the league have been by a 2-1 scoreline.
