Wolverhampton Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Wolves have won their last three matches against Chelsea and could extend their streak on Sunday when they take on a side who have won only two of their last seven away games and who were outshot 22-14 by Swiss side Servette in a Conference League qualifier on Thursday.

Wolverhampton 2-1

Reason for tip

While Chelsea may fall to defeat, both teams to score has been a winning bet in ten of their last 11 matches and with the likes of Joao Felix, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Pedro Neto in their ranks they certainly have more than enough attacking talent to find the net.

Matheus Cunha To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Matheus Cunha registered a shot on target despite playing just 33 minutes against Arsenal and with the Brazilian set to feature for longer on Sunday, he rates a solid bet to find the net when Chelsea, who he netted a hat-trick against last term, visit Molineux.

Wolverhampton vs Chelsea Predictions

  • Wolves have won the last three meetings between these sides
  • Chelsea have won just two of their last seven away league matches
  • Both teams to score has been a winning bet in ten of the Blues’ last 11 away games and landed as the two shared six goals when they met in February

Blues bound for Black Country struggle

Chelsea have spent more than enough money this summer – and the previous two summers in fairness – to suggest they should easily be beating Wolves, who finished 14th last season and have seen key men Max Kilman and Pedro Neto depart in this window – the latter to the Blues.

However, their performance in their opening 2-0 defeat to Manchester City would be best described as disjointed while their showing against Servette Conference League qualifying on Thursday night was worrying to say the least.

Despite eventually winning 2-0, the Blues were outshot 22-14 by their Swiss visitors, who also racked up four more corners than their hosts.

That performance followed a bizarre press conference in which Enzo Maresca claimed he had exiled over 15 players from training with the first team and the off-field issues at Chelsea are clearly having an impact on the pitch.

Wolves can enjoy a successful hunt for points

So with all that noise off the pitch and some mediocre displays on it, it defies belief that Chelsea are odds-on ahead of their trip to Molineux, especially when adding the context that Wolves have won the last three meetings between the pair.

Wanderers’ double last season included an impressive 4-2 win at Stamford Bridge and they showed enough in their opening defeat to probable title contenders Arsenal that they could keep up their excellent streak against the Blues.

While the Gunners were expectedly dominant in that clash, the game could have panned out very differently had David Raya not pulled off an unbelievable save to keep out a Jorgen Strand Larsen header with the score finely poised at 1-0.

Matheus Cunha wasn’t fit enough to start against Arsenal but looked lively off the bench and should start on Sunday, which is a huge boost given he netted a hat-trick in Wolves’ win at Stamford Bridge in February.

New-look Chelsea could take a long time to gel

Wolves may have lost key men this summer, but they still looked settled against Arsenal which is a testament to the job Gary O’Neil has done at Molineux.

The same can certainly not be said of Chelsea. While it cannot be denied they have brought in some real quality in the form of Joao Felix, Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, it can be argued that too many cooks spoil the broth.

Just as it did last season, it may take months for Chelsea to find their best side and a trip to Molineux, where they have struggled of late, so early in the season is not guaranteed to yield any points for the embryonic Blues.

Although they are unpredictable and could gel just enough to scrape a point in the Black Country, so take the hosts in the double chance market as a safety net.
