Wolverhampton vs Manchester City Predictions
- City are unbeaten in all competitions this season (W7, D3).
- Wolves have lost their last five games.
- Wolves have scored in eight consecutive games.
City can pile misery on Wolves
Wolves entertain Manchester City in the first of two Premier League games on Sunday and anything other than a convincing win for the visitors would be a surprise here.
The defending champions are yet to lose in any competition this season with seven wins in 10 games, or 11 including the Community Shield.
City won 5-1 when these sides met in a reverse fixture towards the end of last season, and with the hosts on a five-game losing streak the visitors look well placed to come away with the spoils.
Wolves can strike in defeat
Pep Guardiola’s men are the heavy favourites and the handicap markets are worth some consideration, but the best bet could be backing a City win with goals at both ends.
Wolves may have lost six of their seven Premier League games, with one draw, but they’ve only failed to score in one of those games, and they drew that blank at Arsenal in the opening round of games.
The hosts have scored in defeats to Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa this season and they hit three in defeat to Brentford in the last round of fixtures.
City have conceded eight goals in their seven league games and have conceded in their last seven domestic fixtures, and without the influential Rodri in midfield they are not quite the defensive unit they were last season, so Wolves can at least grab a consolation effort.
Handicaps an alternative option
Wolves have shipped 21 goals in just seven games this season and have been on the wrong end of a few heavy losses, losing 6-2 to Chelsea and 5-3 to Brentford.
City could win with a bit of room to spare here and a 4-1 win for the visitors is the correct score prediction, as Guardiola’s men have scored seven goals across their last two games and have scored at least twice in seven of their last nine across all competitions against stronger defences.
Erling Haaland is the obvious anytime scorer bet here as he has 10 goals in just seven games, but with a few City strikes expected it is worth looking at outside options and Jack Grealish could be a contender. The 29-year-old is yet to get off the mark for his club but he did score for England over the last international break and now has two in his last three games for his country. City’s tactics don’t necessarily help Grealish when it comes to scoring but he may see a few chances come his way against Wolves’ struggling defence and Sunday’s game looks a good chance for Grealish to open his City account for the season.
