Arsenal vs Newcastle Predictions
- Arsenal have won just two of their ten games against the sides currently in the top ten of the Premier League this term
- Newcastle have won six matches on the spin, scoring 18 goals in that run
- The Magpies have lost just two of their last six meetings with Arsenal, winning three of those
Newcastle nearing another Wembley appearance
The 2023 Carabao Cup provided Newcastle with their first appearance in any final since 1999 but no such drought looks likely these days, with the Magpies making a habit of deep runs in England’s cup competitions.
Eddie Howe’s men made the quarter-finals of both the FA and Carabao Cups last term and they have reached the semis of the latter this time around, with a two-legged tie against Arsenal their reward.
The Magpies travel to the capital on Tuesday for the first of those legs and while a trip to the Emirates looks a daunting prospect, Newcastle could not be in better form and there is reason to believe they could head back to St James’ Park with a lead, or at least with the tie finely poised.
Magpies may pull off a shock
Newcastle were not at their best against a depleted Spurs on Saturday but still ground out a 2-1 victory, a win which marked their sixth in as many games.
Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon are in frightening form, leading to a mammoth 18 goals being scored by the Magpies in that run, while it could be argued that the drop off in talent from their starters to their bench is less noticeable than Arsenal’s.
Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock, Lloyd Kelly and Kieran Trippier may all come in for this clash and each could play their part in a memorable night in north London.
Arteta’s men might be in for a tough test
Arsenal were held to a gruelling 1-1 draw by Brighton on Saturday and the likes of Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice and Mikel Merino, who have all struggled with injury this term, may be rested on Tuesday as a result.
The Gunners have some capable deputies but they have looked slightly short of ideas in attack since Bukayo Saka’s injury and depth is certainly not their strong suit, with some out-of-favour players, such as Oleksandr Zinchenko, likely to be reluctantly called upon by Mikel Arteta.
The Spaniard will be cautious of rotating too much, too, as Arsenal have struggled against the country’s best sides this season, with the Gunners winning just two of their ten matches against sides currently residing in the top ten of the Premier League.
Super Swede to strike again
A loss against Newcastle is included in that run, making the Magpies’ price a huge one. However, six stalemates also feature in the sequence, so keep the draw onside by backing the visitors in the double-chance market.
Isak, who has six goals in his last four games, will lead the Magpies offensive in north London and he could help his side get over the line in a narrow 2-1 victory for the underdogs.
