Atletico Madrid To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Atletico Madrid have won five of their last seven La Liga matches with clean sheets. Meanwhile, Espanyol have failed to score in their two league outings so far this season.

Atletico Madrid 2-0

Reason for tip

Espanyol have the worst shot conversion rate in La Liga and one of the worst shot on target ratios too. They will probably be shut out by an Atletico Madrid side that held Girona in check while Antoin Griezman’s craft can carve out enough chances for the hosts to win 2-0.

Alexander Sorloth To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Alexander Sorloth has scored 24 goals in his last 36 league games and bagged on his Atleti debut at Villarreal. The Norwegian will be fresh if he is  restored to the starting line-up after Diego Simeone opted to start him on the bench against Girona on Sunday.

All-action Atletico are too good for Parakeets

Atletico Madrid are likely to prove too strong for Espanyol when they entertain the newly-promoted Parakeets in the Spanish capital on Wednesday.

Diego Simeone’s side go back to work a few days after thrashing Girona 3-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano, although Espanyol are likely to make this a very different game from the wide-open contest that Sunday’s clash turned into.

Girona were sucker-punched after dominating the early exchanges when Antoine Griezmann’s free-kick beat an unsighted goalkeeper. And Atleti finished the job off with two counter-attack goals, brilliantly finished by Marcos Llorente and Koke.

Simeone’s side can win to nil

Espanyol suffered a second 1-0 reverse of the campaign when they came up against Real Sociedad on Saturday.  Manolo Gonzalez’s side are a decent defensive unit at this level and held out until the 80th minute, but they lack potency up front.

They created more chances and outshot their opponents at the weekend, but La Liga is an unforgiving place when you cannot score.

While Atleti’s defence may not be as solid as it once was, they have kept five clean sheets in their last seven La Liga games and should be backed to win this midweek match to nil.
