Brighton vs Newcastle Predictions
- There have been 14 goals in Brighton’s three Premier League matches this season.
- Both teams have scored in each of the Seagulls’ last five league games at the Amex.
- Newcastle have found the net in six of their last eight Premier League away matches.
Entertaining clash likely at the Amex
Expectations are high at both Brighton and Newcastle this season after the Seagulls qualified for the Europa League for the first time and the Magpies secured a berth in the Champions League.
However, they both suffered a setback last week as Roberto De Zerbi saw his Albion team fall to a 3-1 home loss to West Ham and Eddie Howe’s side were beaten by two Darwin Nunez goals at home to ten-man Liverpool.
So the emphasis is there for both to get back into the swing of things quickly and both teams look capable of finding the net at the Amex.
Before their defeat to the Hammers, Brighton had been excellent in consecutive 4-1 wins over Luton and Wolves, even though both of those opponents are expected to struggle this season.
They have failed to score in just one of their last 16 home Premier League matches, but the magpies could exploit gaps their attacking style can leave at the back so both teams to score is an attractive bet.
Challengers could be difficult to separate
Newcastle ended last season nine points ahead of the Seagulls, but they could be evenly matched in this clash.
After losses to Liverpool and Manchester City, a point may not be a bad result for the Magpies, who drew eight of their 19 away matches last season, a tally that was beaten only by strugglers Everton last term.
There is a feeling that Brighton claimed their opening two victories over weak teams and Newcastle will provide them with more problems, but six of their last eight games at the Amex have featured more than three goals, so it is worth chancing that the game will end in a 2-2 draw.
Isak finding his feet for the Toon
While their supporters will be disappointed to see Newcastle in the bottom half of the table even at this early stage of the campaign, defeats to the champions and Liverpool should not be considered disastrous for the Toon Army.
One big plus is that they have a top striker in Alexander Isak, who looks to have put his injury problems firmly behind him as he attempts to firmly establish himself in the English top flight.
The Swede scored twice in their opening 5-1 victory over Aston Villa and he represents good anytime-goalscorer value to make his mark again on the south coast.
