Cambridge United vs Cheltenham Predictions
- Cheltenham have lost just two of their last 15 away from home
- Cambridge have conceded in six consecutive home matches
- The reverse fixture saw a 1-1 draw in December 2019
- The Robins have seen fewer than three goals in their last eight away games
Hosts upping the ante at home vs the top half
Cambridge haven’t had a season to remember but recent performances against top-half sides has the fans wondering what could have been. Recent wins vs both Colchester and Bradford cleared the hosts of relegation this season, but the fans will be desperate for consistency knowing what the players can produce on their day.
The hosts head into Saturday’s game having won three of their last six games, scoring seven and conceding just five. Finding the net hasn’t come easy for United, scoring just 40 times in 37 games so far. With two wins in the last three at home, Cambridge can be full of confidence despite Cheltenham’s dominant form.
Automatic promotion is within reach for Cheltenham
Cheltenham are playing some of the best football we have seen all season and are no doubt making the playoffs should they not win automatic promotion. Michael Duff’s men are the most in-form side in the league, having won five of their last six ahead of Saturday’s clash.
The Robins have fared well on the road this season and could move within one point of third-place Plymouth with a win this weekend. They’ve lost just two of the last 15 away from home in the league, conceding just eight times to pick up 25 points.
Defence wins again
The visitors charge up the table has been helped massively by the fact they have conceded just 27 goals all season. Cambridge are already struggling with four losses in their last six, conceding 15 goals in those games. Cheltenham aren’t the highest scorers away from home but are playing much stronger football and will be desperate to keep the pressure on for automatic promotion.
Cambridge have struggled to find the net for the majority of the season and we saw just two total goals scored in the reverse leg. With Cheltenham strengthing on defence, a narrow 1-0 victory for the visitors seems a wise move.
