Charlton vs Sunderland Predictions

  • Charlton have lost their last five matches
  • Sunderland have won one of their last seven matches
  • Charlton are unbeaten in their last five matches against Sunderland

Wembley curse may live on

Despite Charlton having lost their last five matches, they aren’t without a chance on Saturday as The Addicks  have the wood over Sunderland. Two play-off final wins over Sunderland live long in the memory of both sets of fans. Charlton are unbeaten in their last five games against Sunderland, a run that includes the 2019 League One play-off final, which The Addicks won 2-1 curtesy of a 94th minute Patrick Bauer winner. Charlton’s good run in this fixture extends to one defeat in their last 12 against Saturday’s visitors, they are certainly one of Sunderland’s bogey teams.

Sunderland themselves not in good form

Alex Neil’s reign as Sunderland boss started in underwhelming fashion with a defeat and a draw against MK Dons and Burton respectively. Last weekend’s impressive 3-0 victory at Wigan would have certainly eased the pressure on the former Preston boss. The win over Wigan was their first in seven games and failure to make the play-offs this year would be a catastrophe given their start to the season. The Sunderland fans would probably never forgive this set of players should they somehow miss out on a top six berth.

Despite being in dreadful form ,Charlton may well extend unbeaten run against Sunderland at The Valley on Saturday. Johnnie Jackson will be expecting a performance from his players following last week’s spineless effort at Hillsborough and The Addicks may be able to get a result here. The main selection for this game will be for it to end all square and the correct score prediction will be a 1-1 draw.
