Crewe vs Aston Villa Predictions
Aston Villa got points on the board in the Premier League this weekend, with a victory over Everton boosting the Villains. They are up and running for the season, but they will be looking to add to that with League Cup success on Tuesday. Villa head to Crewe this week trying to build up a bit of momentum. Dean Smith knows only too well how important that can be, given how he took Villa from mid-table to the Premier League thanks to a late-season streak. Can Villa kick off a simialr run here?
Crewe are in the playoffs at this early stage of the League Two campaign. They head into this clash on the back of three wins in four in the league, while they caused a big surprise at the Riverside as they dumped out Middlesbrough. Now the League Two side are hoping to strike a blow to Premier League opposition. However, they are struggling for form in this competition at home. They have failed to win five of their last six clashes at home in the Carabao Cup, with the likes of Bolton, Fleetwood and Preston claiming results here.
Villa should come here confident of pulling off a result. The Villians have won three of their last five clashs in this competition, while they are coming into this game on the back of a much needed win. They can add to that victory in this visit to Crewe, especially after taking a look at the host’s recent record in this competition. However, the hosts do have a strong scoring record at this ground in this competition, so will they be able to find a way around Villa?
Fresh from a 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough, Crewe should be looking to get forward and score in this tie. They have found the net in their last nine matches in the Carabao Cup, so we’re expecting them to go into this one with some attacking intent. They will be hoping to take advantage of a rotated Villa side at the back, while their home record has been high scoring as well. Their last four matches at home in the League Cup have seen both teams score.
Villa could see that repeated here, given that they have one clean sheet in nine of their last 10 away trips in the Carabao Cup. They have scored in 11 of their last 12 away games in this competition, so everything is pointing us towards goals here. We’re going with both teams to score as our tip for this clash, while we see Villa claiming a 2-1 win in this one.
