Espanyol can eke out a point

Espanyol can rely on their rock-solid defence to earn their first point of the season against an out-of-sorts Real Sociedad this weekend.

The promoted Parakeets were a touch unfortunate to leave Valladolid with nothing to show for their efforts last weekend as Raul Moro’s deflected strike proved to be the difference.

Manolo Gonzalez only took charge of them back in March, but appears to have instilled some real steel in their backline with Espanyol having conceded only eight times in the 17 games he has overseen.

Real Sociedad were anything but solid in defence during their 2-1 home defeat to Rayo Vallecano last week with Martin Zubimendi giving the scoreline a flattering look for them when he popped up with a stoppage-time consolation effort.

However, they were good on the road at the back end of the last campaign, losing only two of their final nine road trips, and can come away with a point from this contest.

They are priced up at a shade of odds against, which looks a bit much, with the value here available in backing the clash to finish all square after 90 minutes.
