Fiorentina can end Juve’s purple patch

Juventus are on a five-game unbeaten run but they may come unstuck when they head to a ground they have struggled at in recent seasons on Sunday.

Fiorentina are unbeaten in their last four Serie A games against Juve at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, with one win and three draws, and at a big price a home win appeals ahead of this fixture.

Juve’s form misleading

Juve have four wins and a draw in their last five games and they haven’t conceded during that run – but those results perhaps exceed their performances.

Three of the Old Lady’s wins have come against teams in the bottom half. They were lucky to escape Atalanta with a 0-0 draw, and they were second best against AC Milan at the San Siro before the Rossoneri were reduced to 10 men, with Juve eventually managing to grind out a 1-0 win.

Fiorentina have eight points from their four home games so far (W2, D1, L1). La Viola did lose to Empoli in their last league game at this venue, but were unlucky not to at least claim a point, and their strong home record against Juve suggests they can bounce back with three points here.

This could be a fairly high-scoring game despite Juve’s run of clean sheets and a bold 3-2 victory for the hosts is the correct score prediction. Fiorentina have conceded twice in three of their four home games so far but are capable of scoring heavily themselves – having hit Cukaricki for six in Europe as well as scoring three at Napoli last month.

Nicolas Gonzalez is Fiorentina’s top scorer with five goals in nine league games. The Argentina international has gone two Serie A games without a goal but still managed to put in strong displays in both of those fixtures and he can get back among the goals against Juve.
