Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in six of Genoa’s last seven Serie A matches and also in five of Napoli’s last six away league fixtures. The visitors have scored multiple goals in only three of their eight away league games this season while Genoa are averaging less than one strike per home game this term.

Draw 0-0

Reason for tip

Napoli’s clean sheets record, which is second only to Juventus’ 10 in Serie A, coupled with Genoa’s failure to score in their last two indicates the hosts will struggle to score. But they have kept three clean sheets in a row under Patrick Vieira and may be able to eke out a point in a 0-0.

Genoa vs Napoli Predictions

  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in six of Genoa’s last seven Serie A matches
  • Fewer than three goals have been scored in five of Napoli’s last six away league fixtures
  • Napoli have kept nine clean sheets this season, second only to Juventus’ 10 in Serie A

Il Grifone have had their wings clipped

Genoa’s defensive resilience will be tested by Napoli at the Luigi Ferraris on Saturday in a Serie A clash that could prove to be a tight, low-scoring affair.

Il Grifone have been difficult to break down of late, recording three consecutive clean sheets against Udinese, Torino and AC Milan. Patrick Vieira’s team has conceded just 0.89 goals per game at home this season, demontsrating their ability to keep things tight at the back.

This defensive solidity appears to be the key to their prospects of moving into the top half of the table because Genoa are short on potent attacking talent right now.  Leading marksmen Albert Gudmundsson and Mateo Retegui left in the summer and have not been adequately replaced while Vieira is currently without the services of Caleb Ekuban, Junior Messias and Ruslan Malinovskiy through injury.

Napoli could be denied by dogged hosts

Napoli have been great away from home and are widely considered to be the most likely challengers to Inter’s recent dominance of Serie A. Since drawing 1-1 with the Nerazurri at the San Siro last month, Antonio Conte’s side have won three and lost one of their league games with three of those contests decided by a single goal.

Backing fewer than three goals in this clash makes sense based on the recent results of both clubs. Six of Genoa’s last seven Serie A matches and five of Napoli’s last six away league fixtures have featured under 2.5 goals.

A third goalless game in a row could be on the cards for the Rossoblu, who have restricted their last three Serie A opponents to a combined expected goals of 1.9 while creating next to nothing themselves in their last two outings.
