Manchester City vs Burton Albion Predictions
Manchester City’s FA Cup outing on Sunday will have left Burton Albion a little apprehensive about their upcoming trip to the Etihad Stadium. A rotated Citizens side ran out 7-0 victors over Championship side Rotheram, and illustrated the incredible strength in depth that Manchester City have.
We could see a similar sort of lineup fielded against Burton on Wednesday too, with a few exceptions of course. Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to play again while Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden are hoping to retain their places. Gabriel Jesus is also likely to start up front again, although Raheem Sterling, John Stones, and Kyle Walker could be rested.
The problem for Burton is that Manchester City have genuine quality right down in the depths of their squad. Their second string team could arguably challenge for the Premier League title, and all of them are very keen to make their mark in an attempt to push for a more regular starting position.
Burton Albion, in fairness to them, have pulled off a few upsets in this season’s Carabao Cup. They beat Middlesbrough away from home in the quarter final to add a third Championship scalp to their trophy room. Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest have both fallen victim to Burton too, with those victories coming either side of a 2-1 win over Premier League Burnley.
Manchester City, however, are another prospect entirely. They are defending League Cup champions and have won the trophy in 3 of the last 5 seasons. At home they have won 14 of their 16 competitive games this season and scored an incredible 55 goals in the process. Burton, meanwhile, have lost 9 of their 17 away days this term and conceded 25 goals, so the backup Man City attack will be licking their lips for Wednesday’s clash.
We’re expecting a comprehensive Manchester City win at the Etihad. They have won by at least a 3 goal margin on 6 occasions this season and all of their matches have come against top flight or Champions League opponents. Given the motivation they showed against Rotherham on Sunday we think backing a Manchester City -2.5 Asian Handicap looks a fantastic option along with a 4-0 correct score predictions.
