Manchester United vs Manchester City Predictions
- Manchester City have lost the last two Community Shields
- Manchester City have only won six of the 15 Community Shield ties they have been involved in.
- Manchester United are the most successful side in this competition’s history with 21 victories.
Citizens to struggle in curtain raiser
Manchester United defied all expectations to salvage an otherwise miserable season by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup Final at Wembley just under three months ago, and they may get their hands on some more silverware in the traditional curtain raiser for the top-flight season.
Of course, Manchester City’s domestic dominance has resulted in plenty of Community Shield appearances in recent years, but they have lost the last three iterations, and their overall record in this competition is underwhelming, with just six wins from 15 appearances.
Their last Community Shield win came in 2019, and their two meetings with their cross-city rivals have both resulted in a victory for the Red Devils, most recently in a 3-2 win in 2011.
Diallo could play starring role
Manchester City new boy Savinho may get a run out at Wembley in place of Julian Alvarez, who has agreed a big-money move to Atletico Madrid.
On the other side of the pitch, Leny Yoro will miss the opening weeks of the season after getting injured in pre-season, but Joshua Zirkzee could lead the line with Rasmus Hojlund injured, and Amad Diallo will be expecting to make the starting line-up, too.
Diallo has been Manchester United’s star player during their pre-season tour, finding the net against Rangers and Real Betis. He is likely to play a more prominent role until Alejandro Garnacho is back to full fitness following a busy summer of international football, and he looks an excellent price to get his season off to a flyer.
Red Devils can defy the odds once more
With his contribution, Erik ten Hag’s side look good value to deny Manchester City a win in normal time. The Citizens have lost three of their four pre-season friendlies and backing Manchester United in the double chance market appeals.
Four of the last six Community Shields have ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, two of which involved Manchester city, so that looks a good bet for correct score punters.
