Over 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

These teams are a lot stronger going forward than they are at the back and with five of the last eight meetings producing at least four goals, there seems little reason to believe that pattern will not be followed.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Neither of these teams have had particularly strong starts and their potential shortcomings at the back mean it is difficult to have much favour in each outfit, so take a chance on them sharing four goals.

Dominic Solanke To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Dominic Solanke has taken a little time to settle in at Tottenham but his confidence will have been boosted by goals against Brentford and Qarabag, so take him to notch for the third successive outing.

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

  • Five of the last eight meetings have featured at least four goals.
  • United have failed to win three of their last four league games.
  • Two of the last three meetings have finished in 2-2 draws.

United still not finding their flow

The joy at beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final probably saved Erik ten Hag’s job as Manchester United boss in May, but that success has not had the galvanising effect the new Old Trafford ownership would have liked to see and the Dutchman continues to walk on a tightrope.

With his position still coming under question every week and not having been strengthened much by wins over Southampton and Barnsley, his team face another tough test against Tottenham after losing their last home league game 3-0 against fierce rivals Liverpool.

A 1-1 opening draw against Twente in the Europa League was another underwhelming result, but Ten Hag is at least gaining some reinforcements in forward positions with Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount back from injuries.

The defence was picked apart by Liverpool which has to be a concern, but at least they can be a force in the final third which could lead to plenty of opportunities against a Spurs team who have looked shaky at best.

Difficult to be confident about Spurs defence

Ange Postecoglou’s team performed well to win 3-0 against Qarabag in the Europa League after they were reduced to ten men after just eight minutes, but they still had a few shaky moments.

The Spurs defence seem intent on trying to shoot themselves in the foot at regular intervals and the spaces are there to exploit if full-backs Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie push forward, which they do regularly.

So chances should appear, but the north London side still possess the attacking ability to threaten any defence, especially one that can be as nervy as United’s.

That could all add up to an entertaining game at Old Trafford and this is a fixture that rarely disappoints. It is difficult to call but by backing a game that features at least four goals, which has happened in five of the last eight meetings, and a 2-2 correct score, both bases can be covered.

Solanke is finally finding his feet

One player who punters should be looking to put their faith in is Tottenham record signing Dominic Solanke.

The former Liverpool and Bournemouth striker has taken a little while to settle after his summer move from the Vitality Stadium, but he has found his feet now, scoring in both the wins over Brentford and Qarabag.

that should give his confidence a massive lift and he looks geared to give the United defence a difficult afternoon and find the net for the third successive game.
