Manchester United vs Wolverhampton Predictions
- Wolves have lost to nil in four of the six clashes with sides above them
- The visitors have scored 13 times in 18 league games this season
- Wolves have failed to score in five of their last six games
- Man United have won four of the last five meetings between the pair
Another setback for Wolves?
Wolves haven’t won their first game of the calendar year in any of their seven previous Premier League campaigns, losing five of those clashes. With Man United fresh from a 3-1 win over Burnley, the visitors face a tough return to action.
Wolves have faced a string of postponements and they are set for their first clash this side of Christmas. Wolves drew 0-0 with Chelsea in their last match, but their other clashes with the league’s elite haven’t gone as smoothly.
Wolves can’t match top sides
Wolves have got into the top half of the Premier League after a solid campaign, but they’ve had to rely on picking off the sides below them to get there. Bruno Lage’s men have managed one win against the sides above them, a narrow victory over West Ham.
However, four of their six visits to the sides ahead of them have been 1-0 defeats, something which they should be worried about this weekend. While Wolves are expected to have players back, they aren’t likely to be at full strength and they’ll almost certainly be short of fitness after a gap of over two weeks since their last game. Expect them to fall short against a top side once again.
United to hold firm
Wolves come into this clash having failed to score in five of their last six games. They’ve scored only 13 times across their last 18 in the league, while the visitors have netted only three goals across their last 10 league visits to Old Trafford.
United have won their last three home league games and they should be able to see off the struggling visitors. With Wolves struggling in front of goal a home win to nil is my prediction, with United winning four of the last five clashes between the pair.
None of Wolves’ last seven Premier League games has seen more than one goal, while United have scored exactly once in four of their five games under Ralf Rangnick. With that in mind, a 1-0 home win is my correct score prediction.
Manchester United predicted lineup: De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo, Rashford
Wolves predicted lineup: Sa; Kilman, Coady, Saiss; Semedo, Neves, Moutinho, Marcal; Traore, Jimenez, Trincao
