Midtjylland vs Manchester United Betting Tips & Predictions

Midtjylland are coming into this game lacking match practice due to the extended winter break of the colder areas in Europe. They haven’t played a competitive game of football since the start of December, when they drew 1-1 with Club Brugge in the final Europa League group match to qualify for the knockout stages.

This draw allowed them to finish 2^nd in their group, but their return of seven points from six games is hardly impressive, and they are fortunate it wasn’t a more difficult group to overcome. Napoli finished top of the pile, with Club Brugge and Legia Warsaw failing to qualify.

Midtjylland aren’t exactly in great form coming into this huge match either. Taking their mid-season friendlies into account, they have only won two of their last 14 matches, with eight of those games ending in defeat.

They are only four points adrift of the top spot in the Danish Super Liga, but their lack of cutting edge will have the players a bit low on confidence.

Manchester United players won’t be much more confident though. They lost 2-1 to relegation candidates Sunderland on Saturday, and despite facing one of the worst defences in the Premier League couldn’t manage to muster much of a threat.

This makes their recent record come to two wins, two defeats, and a draw in all competitions, and the six point gap between them and the top four in the Premier League is starting to look insurmountable.

A successful campaign in the Europa League could see them qualify for the Champions League though, so Manchester United will be keen to go all the way in this competition.

But Manchester United failed to win any of their three Champions League away matches this season, and Midtjylland have managed to get one over on the likes of Southampton, Club Brugge, and Legia Warsaw at home in Europe this season. I think the Danish side have a good chance of taking something into the away leg, and odds of 13/10 for a Midtjylland Win or Draw Double Chance look excellent value.
