Morecambe vs Oldham Predictions

Having avoided the drop on goal difference last season, Morcambe would have been targeting a strong start to their 2018/19 campaign to help allay fears of a repeat performance in League Two this term.

Unfortunately for the Shrimps, three defeats from their opening four league fixtures suggests that they are in for another bumpy ride over the next nine months or so. Morcambe were hammered 6-0 on the opening day of the season at Crewe, a result that set the tone for what was a miserable few weeks thereafter.

Morcambe battled their way to a 1-0 win over fellow League Two strugglers Northampton Town on Tuesday, bravely holding out for the win with ten men for the last minutes of the clash after Barry Roche was dismissed.

The win shot Morcambe up to 20^th in the table and simultaneously provided their ailing squad with a shot of confidence. Alongside the three points, Morcambe managed to eke out their first clean sheet of the season. They are unlikely to repeat either feat this weekend however.

Oldham have made a patchy start to their League Two campaign as they look to fight their way back to League One at the first time of asking this season. The Latics had to wait until their third league contest of the season to take maximum points from a game and their slow start will have frustrated Frankie Bunn immeasurably.

Their fixtures have had a tricky look to them however, so an upturn in results is likely soon. Having lost on the opening weekend of the new season to fellow relegated side MK Dons, Oldham have gone unbeaten in League Two.

Two draws and one win isn’t exactly a fabulous run of form, but Oldham are clearly feeling their way into a more positive rhythm. The Latics 0-0 draw in midweek at Yeovil was their first clean sheet however, and their inability to keep their opponents off the scoresheet could hamstring their aspirations this term.

Nevertheless, Oldham are much stronger than Morcambe all over the pitch and we expect them to capitalise on the extra class in their ranks this weekend. We recommend you take the outright away win option for the game.
