Norwich vs Manchester United Predictions
Norwich looked like they had done enough to escape the Premier League relegation battle when they beat West Brom and Newcastle in back to back games a month or so ago, but that feeling of relative comfort seems an awful long time ago now.
They lost crucial matches against Crystal Palace and Sunderland to put them back in danger, and a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend has left them second from bottom in the Premier League. Only two points sit between them and 17th placed Newcastle though and they have a game in hand, so it’s not over yet.
Ideally, Norwich would like to be coming up against teams with nothing left to play for at this point. They have this opportunity in their final two matches against Watford and Everton, but on Saturday they face a Manchester United side who look determined to break into the top four after a largely disappointing season.
The visitors drew 1-1 with Premier League champions Leicester last weekend, putting a halt to their four match winning streak but extending their unbeaten streak to five matches.
Manchester United have finally started to play well as well. Some of the play early on against Leicester was very slick, and they showed class in their wins against West Ham and Everton to reach the FA Cup Final.
They are still four points adrift of the top four though, although with their game in hand they can slash that gap to one point. They need wins though, and I think that will be evident in their play on Saturday. It definitely has been recently too; Manchester United have won five of their last seven in all competitions.
Considering Manchester United’s improving play and the fact that Norwich haven’t even been able to score in their last three matches I think odds of 17/20 for a Manchester United win on Saturday are good value. I still think it will be one of Louis van Gaal’s trademark scorelines though, so I’m backing a 1-0 correct score prediction at 13/2.
