Luton to Win

Reason for tip

It has been a tough adjustment back to life in the Championship after last season’s relegation from the Premier League, but Luton have found their feet with back-to-back wins and should be too strong for Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth.

Luton 2-0

Reason for tip

Four of Luton’s last five Championship clashes have gone under 2.5 goals and they may edge a low-scoring affair at Plymouth. 2-0 makes most appeal from a correct-score perspective.

Plymouth Argyle vs Luton Predictions

  • Luton have won back-to-back Championship matches
  • Plymouth have won only one of their six league games this season
  • Eight of Plymouth’s last nine home league games have gone under 2.5 goals

Hatters can make it hat-trick of wins

Friday’s offering from the Championship sees Luton head to a struggling Plymouth side looking to make it three wins in a row following victories over Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday.

It has been a tough adjustment back to life in the Championship after last season’s relegation from the Premier League, but Luton are finding their feet and should be too strong for Wayne Rooney’s Pilgrims.

The Hatters collected only one point from their first four games, which came in a goalless draw at second-bottom Portsmouth, but those recent pair of victories should have settled the nerves.

There is still a lot of Premier League quality inherited in this Luton squad and in Plymouth they meet a side that have won only once in six outings and that may be set for a season of struggle.

Pilgrims may be out of their depth

Argyle have the highest expected goals against (xGA) figure of any club in the Championship through six matches and those defensive frailties may be punished by a Luton side spearheaded by the in-form Carlton Morris.

Rooney has one of the younger squads in the division at his disposal and that may count against them with Luton having tasted Premier League football last season.

Plymouth remain without a clean sheet, having shipped ten goals in six games, and while performances are improving, they have failed to score in defeats to Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke this season.

So Luton, who have seen four of their last five Championship clashes have gone under 2.5 goals, may edge a low-scoring affair and 2-0 makes most appeal from a correct-score perspective.
