Spain U21 vs Germany U21 Predictions
Spain and Germany meet in the final of the Under 21 European Championship for the second tournament in a row. The Germans took the title back in 2017, but can this new generation match up? They are hoping to take the crown in Italy, but the Spanish come into this game as the favourites. They’ve brought a strong squad to Italy for this year’s championships, including new West Ham man Pablo Fornals. Will their push for glory be capped off in this clash, or can they Germans retain their crown?
Spain have excelled in this high scoring tournament, booking their place in the final with a victory over France in midweek. They thumped the French 4-1 in that clash, coming back from a goal down to put in a dominant display. The Spanish have seen the value in the Under 21 Euros, as they’ve been calling up established players with a view to winning the title and giving their stars experience of going all the way at a tournament. Their players certainly impressed with their mentality in Italy, as they came back from losing the first game to the hosts to make the final.
Germany have gone unbeaten this summer, booking their place in the final with a 4-2 victory over Romania. They had a semi-final spot basically sewn up after two games in Italy, which was a warning from the reigning champions. We know that Germany has an impressive production line of talent, as they’ve basically entirely changed their squad between the 2017 champions and this one. They’ve also caused a stir with their attacking displays in an open tournament, but can they reproduce those against the Spanish?
Germany have scored 14 goals in their four games in Italy. However, their issue is that they’ve kept a clean sheet in none of their games at this tournament. In fact, the champions have seen both teams score in their last seven outings, which has inspired them to the final. They’ve scored at least twice in their last 10 internationals, so they should take the game to Spain this weekend.
However, the Spanish have scored 11 goals across their last three games. They beat Poland – who had started with two wins from two – 5-0 in their final group game to book a semi-final place. That was followed up with a 4-1 hammering of France in the last round. All of their games at this tournament have seen at least three goals, so we expect an exciting finish to things in Italy. We’re going with over 2.5 goals as our main tip here, while we’re predicting a 2-2 draw between these two sides.
