Strasbourg vs Guingamp Predictions
Strasbourg managed to win on penalties when these teams met in the Coupe de France final two weeks ago. It was a close match but in the end the Alsatians managed to hold their nerve and they’ll be looking to do so again to gain three points that could raise them up to 8th. Thierry Laurey’s men haven’t managed to continue the form that brought them eight wins over December and January but they have still put in some good performances, with their last two being exceptional.
They managed to thrash Reims 4-0, despite them being on the second longest running unbeaten streak in Europe at the time. Nuno Da Costa and Co. absolutely ripped up the usually very resolute opponents and they took that form into their last match in the capital. They drew 2-2 with PSG, becoming the first team to not lose in the league to them this season. Strasbourg almost won the match as well but Thilo Kehrer’s late header refused them the spoils. Strasbourg’s attacking talent was really on show here as they have now scored ten goals in their last four league games. Their defence has left a lot to be desired as they conceded six goals in that time but if they can continue the flair up front then they can finish the season strong.
Guingamp are in for a difficult one here as they have lost three of their last four away games, scoring just once in the process. Their last result showed a bit of their quality as they drew 1-1 with Monaco but that isn’t really much of an achievement these days given the state of the Monegasques this season. Apart from that they have been pretty horrid recently with them sitting rock bottom of Ligue 1 and no real sign of that changing in the future.
They have scored just three goals in their last eight games and given their away form, we’re backing the home side to take the three points home here. This fixture ended 1-1 when these teams met in October but Strasbourg have drastically improved since then and with them on a high following the PSG and Reims wins, we’re expecting a confident victory for them. Strasbourg have won four of their last seven home games. They have scored at least two goals in five of their last eight at the Stade de la Meinau and we’re backing them to do just that here. To be fair, Guingamp have only conceded more than two goals in one of their last 25 games so we’re going to back a comfortable 2-0 victory for Strasbourg.
