Valencia vs Chelsea Predictions
- Valencia and Chelsea have seven Group H points each after four games.
- Chelsea’s last eight away matches in all competitions averaged 4.125 goals per game.
- Valencia kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 games.
- Valencia lost just one out of nine home matches this term.
All to play for in Group H
Champions League Group H looks incredibly tight ahead of Valencia’s meeting with Chelsea in Spain this week.
The La Liga side and Frank Lampard’s Blues’ are two of three teams in the section that are currently locked on seven points apiece after four rounds of matches – making Wednesday’s fixture at the Mestalla Stadium a potentially pivotal one.
Chelsea’s impressive seven-away match winning streak came to an end at the weekend in the club’s narrow 1-2 reverse at Man City, though their defeat at the Etihad doesn’t lessen the potent attacking threat the Blues carry with them on their travels.
Chelsea guarantee goals
Under Frank Lampard, Chelsea have shown plenty of attacking verve on the road, though their commitment to pushing men forward often leaves them looking a little exposed at the other end.
As a result, the Blues’ last eight away games in all competitions averaged 4.125 goals per 90 minutes, with over 2.5 goals notched and both teams scoring in seven of those contests. We expect Chelsea’s latest assignment on Wednesday to follow along similar lines.
Valencia beat Chelsea 1-0 in the reverse Group H fixture between the pair in September at Stamford Bridge, though the Blues’ failure to register that evening is one of only two matches where they didn’t hit the net all season.
Los Ches carry a record of only one clean sheet in 10 games themselves into Wednesday’s game, so it seems far-fetched to think they might repeat their Stamford Bridge defensive heroics when they meet Chelsea in their Champions League re-match on Wednesday.
Valenica’s impressive home record
Despite their deficiencies at the back, Albert Celades’ team remain a tough nut to crack at home, losing only one of the nine competitive games they have contested at the Mestalla since the summer.
It’s also interesting to note over 2.5 goals were scored, with both teams registering in four of the club’s last six matches on home turf, and with Chelsea’s high-goal per game averages also considered, we think that combination market is priced generously this week.
Along side our over 2.5 goals and both teams to score prediction, we’re forecasting a 2-2 draw in our correct score tip. Valencia have shown potency in front of goal at home, hitting two or more goals in four of their last six games on their own patch, while Chelsea have scored at least twice in six of their last eight away from Stamford Bridge.
