      Viry-Chatillon vs Caen Predictions

Viry-Châtillon were relegated from the Championnat National 3 last year but haven’t been able to dominate the sixth-tier of French football as they currently sit 5th in the twelve team league. They’ve won five of their last six games but have struggled in the really important matches as they slipped up against 5th place Fleury (0-1) and top team Noisy (0-2). These were both rather disappointing defeats for Viry as they were just building up some momentum but they have always done well to react positively with wins after every defeat they have suffered this season.

Their attack has been pretty solid with eight goals in their last four games but it’s really defensively they will want to improve. They’ve kept four clean sheets in their eleven league games this season which isn’t really the standard of a team seeking promotion. With them facing Ligue 1 Caen, this could be badly exposed but they do have a solid home record this season with just one loss in their last six league games at the Stade Henri Longuet. They also managed to beat Ligue 1 Angers in the previous round of the cup but can they recreate that type of performance against Caen?

Fabien Mercadal’s Caen side were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Marseille at the weekend but they were really crippled by Frédéric Guilbert’s 51st minute red card which didn’t help with them getting back into the game while 1-0 down. They have now lost their last two games, conceding four goals in the process, which is a disappointing turn of events after Caen seemed to be improving. To be fair, these losses were against two very good teams in Marseille and Lille, and their results before that were pretty decent with victories over Ligue 2 Red Star and Toulouse.

Apart from the Marseille game, they have been improving in attack with ten goals in their last eight matches but they did concede in six of those games, which has really held back their growth in the league. Caen have overall been severely average recently and with them currently sitting 16th, they could be in for an upset here against a side that has already beaten Ligue 1 opposition this season.

Viry should be right up for this match after they managed to beat Angers in the previous round of the competition. Caen have won only one of their last nine away games and with Viry winning five of their last six matches we’re going to back a major upset with Viry winning 1-0, just as they did against Angers.
