Wolverhampton vs Arsenal Predictions
- Over 2.5 goals has landed in 82% of Wolves’ games this term
- The hosts have lost 10 of 11 clashes with the top eight, including all six at home
- Arsenal have won 10 of 11 clashes with bottom 10 sides
- This clash pits together the worst side for defending set pieces with the best at scoring from them
Golden opportunity for Gunners
Arsenal failed to make the most of a five-game run at home, winning just twice as they suffered setbacks across all three domestic competitions. The Gunners need to put a run together ahead of vital clashes with Man City and Newcastle in February and that can start with Saturday’s visit to Wolves.
The Old Gold were beaten 3-1 at Chelsea on Monday night, which was their third straight Premier League defeat. It was also their 10th defeat in 11 meetings with the current top eight. That terrible record, along with Wolves’ awful defending of late, bodes well for the Gunners and it offers an excellent angle in for punters.
Molineux tends to put on a show
Wolves are an impressive side going forward, having netted 32 goals across their 22 matches in the league this term. However, they also have the worst defensive record in the league, with 51 goals conceded. That’s made for some entertaining outings at Molineux this term, where eight of their 10 games have featured at least three goals.
All six of Wolves’ home meetings with top-half opposition have featured at least three goals. They’ve conceded 19 goals across those matches, losing each of them. While Arsenal have been criticised for their lack of depth in the final third of late, that shouldn’t be a problem in this trip.
Saturday’s game is well-placed for goals, given that Arsenal have conceded in nine of their 11 league trips so far. There have been 33 goals scored in total across Arsenal’s 11 away games and that’s without them visiting any of the bottom five.
The Gunners have won 10 of 11 clashes with bottom half teams so far, while they’ve beaten Wolves in each of the last seven meetings between the pair. Given that the hosts have lost their last three Premier League games – conceding three times in losses to Chelsea, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest – Arsenal and over 2.5 goals stands out.
A set-piece mismatch
Another good omen for the visitors is the contrast between these two sides when it comes to set-pieces. Arsenal remain corner kings, as their 10 set piece goals are the highest tally in the league. On the other hand, Wolves have conceded a league-high 17 goals from set pieces.
That record of 17 goals conceded in 22 games shows just how vulnerable Wolves have been in that department. That should ease the burden on Arsenal’s forward line, leaving defender Gabriel as the standout goalscorer selection.
The Brazilian has had 16 shot attempts from set pieces in the Premier League this term and he’s scored five times across all competitions this season. With Wolves likely to give him chances, back him to score anytime.
