Wolverhampton to Win

Reason for tip

Wolves have been rock-solid this season and head into Thursday’s game unbeaten in seven matches. They haven’t lost a home match since September and have beaten Manchester City, Spurs and Chelsea since then, while Manchester United have only won one of their last six league games and have taken just one point from their last four trips.

Wolverhampton 2-1

Reason for tip

Wolves have won by a 2-1 scoreline in three of their last eight home Premier League matches and Manchester United have conceded exactly two goals in five of their last six outings in all competitions, including a 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest in their last Premier League away game.

O’Neil proves doubters wrong

Both these sides progressed in the FA Cup at the weekend but now their attentions turn towards the first midweek Premier League schedule of 2024 and Wolves look good value to go level on points with the visitors on Thursday.

Gary O’Neil has impressed since taking charge of Wolves in the summer, guiding them to 29 points from 21 games and being unfortunate not to claim a few more along the way. They head into Thursday’s game unbeaten in seven competitive games and they haven’t lost at Molineux since Liverpool came to town in September.

Five of their eight home league games since that loss have ended in victory, including very impressive wins against Manchester City, Spurs and Chelsea.

Red Devils’ struggles continue

Manchester United made harder work of League Two side Newport County than they perhaps should have done and their record in the Premier League certainly doesn’t inspire confidence.

They have won just one of their last six games and have taken one point from their last four top-flight away games, failing to score in three of those trips.

Hosts can claim big three points

Wolves were unfortunate to lose the reverse fixture at Old Trafford in August but, with form and confidence on their side, they should be able to exact a measure of revenge on Thursday and a fourth 2-1 win in nine home matches could also be on the cards.

Anytime goalscorer punters should consider Matheus Cunha in the absence of Hwang Hee-Chan. The Brazilian forward scored at the Hawthorns on Sunday and has three goals and two assists from his last six games, including a goal in each of his last two home matches.
