How to bet on the World Cup

If you haven’t engaged in online sports betting before, the jam-packed schedule of the World Cup can make for an appealing opportunity to try sports betting for the first time. The fast-paced nature of the competition, especially in the latter stages, makes in-play betting ideal for World Cup betting, while the classic World Cup accumulator is among our most popular bets for the group stage. It’s also worth taking advantage of new customers and World Cup offers – our free bets section lists the best of these so you can compare them.

Who will win the World Cup?

There’s nothing better than making an outright prediction, whether for the office sweepstakes or your own personal punt. The joint favourites for the Qatar 2022 World Cup are France and Brazil, however we have our own predictions above! While we think that The Netherlands is the best bet to walk home with the trophy this year, we’ve also included our “dark horse” tip in the form of the ruthlessly aggressive Uruguayan team. Check at the top of the page for more details on those tips, and suggestions on where to place those bets.

How to watch the World Cup on TV

As always, the World Cup games will be split between the BBC and ITV, free to watch for all British households. The first game of the tournament, Qatar vs Ecuador on Sunday the 20th, will be broadcast on BBC One at 4pm. Please check our World Cup schedule below in order to find the TV station for the game you want to watch.

When is the 2022 World Cup?

Unusually for the World Cup, this one will be held in winter due to the blistering heat of Qatar’s summers. This means that the first match will be held on November 20th, and the tournament will run until December 18th, ending just before Christmas!

The group stage will run from the first day of the tournament, November 20th, until December 2nd. The Round of 16 begins the next day on December 3rd, continuing until December 6th. The Quarter Finals will then be held on the 9th and 10th of December, and the Semi Finals on the 13th and 14th. Then, concluding the tournament will be the 3rd-place playoff on the 17th and the grand final itself on December 18th, exactly a week before Christmas Day.

What are the 2022 World Cup fixtures?

Excepting the first two days, each day of the group stages will have four matches between teams of two groups. Where will the World Cup be held?

This year, Qatar will be hosting the FIFA World Cup. Known for its blistering heat, the World Cup has been moved to winter for the first time ever in order to protect players and fans alike from what can be an unrelenting summer sun. While the final will take place at the 80,000 seat Lusail Stadium, other matches will take place across 7 other stadia dotted around the state of Qatar. These are; Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Education City Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, & Ras Abu Aboud Stadium.

Who has won the most World Cups?

There is only one country in the world that has not only won the most World Cup titles (with an impressive 5), but is also the only nation to have reached every World Cup finals since their inception in 1930. This is, of course, Brazil, who won the competition in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, & 2002. Unsurprisingly, they are considered one of the favourites for this particular tournament, alongside previous winners France, the implaccable Netherlands, and the energetic Uruguayans.

Past World Cup Winners:

2018: France

2014: Germany

2010: Spain

2006: Italy

2002: Brazil

1998: France

1994: Brazil

1990: West Germany
